The folks behind Bakuretsu Con were crazy enough to ask me back. I said yes, of course. Other guests included David Williams, Scott Melzer, Matthew Myers, and Stephen Hoff. That’s right, the husband was able to join me in Vermont! The two of us don’t get to do that many conventions together. More cons should invite audio engineers. There, I said it!

Quail ManA part of me feels that I should showcase cosplay directly related to anime, but I end up geeking out over the non-anime ones more often than not (don’t judge me). I saw a lot of great costumes at Baku this year, but Quail-Man is the one that stood out from the crowd. I was such a fan of this cosplay that I refused to refer to this staffer as anything other than Quail-Man for the entire weekend… I’m sure he loved that (I hope so anyway). Yeah, Doug wasn’t for everybody, but you’ve got to love Quail-Man (or is it Quailman… whatever)!

Darkness Falls TourStephen and I normally try to do a lot during the month of October, we even did a Halloween tree this year. Yep, it is definitely our favorite holiday. That being said, I was more than a little bummed that we had to fly out on Halloween (saw no more than five costumes throughout the entire day, how sad is that?). Oddly enough, not much happens on October 31st in Vermont, it’s more about the days leading up to it (still baffled by that). The staff went above and beyond trying to find something for a fright fix. Queen City Ghostwalk holds Darkness Falls tours, which more than fit the bill. We got to walk around Burlington on a cold, dark Saturday night (it was raining too), learning about serial killers, annoyed ghosts, scared drunks, and much, much more. Thea Lewis, author & tour guide, clearly loves what she does. I rarely get to know a city I’m visiting so well, this was so much fun. Bonus, it was on November 2nd (aka All Souls Day)!

Swanson-ChanLast year’s Baku was awesome for so many reasons, one of them was meeting an artist by the name of Ian Chase. He asked me at the staff dinner if he could draw something for me and I was later surprised with a saucy sketch of Virgo (one of my characters in Fairy Tail). When I saw Ian this year, he asked me again. Since he’s hard at work on his Schoolgirls Love Tentacles project, I asked for a schoolgirl. When he asked Stephen, he immediately said anything related to Ron Swanson (he’s a huge fan of all things Swanson). The artwork to the left is the end result, Ian revealed it during “That Terrible 18+ Panel”. This is one of the best things that has ever been drawn and I’m debating on whether or not I should share it with Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson on Parks & Recreation) via Twitter. Just in time for Movember too, hmmm…

SigningMe and my fellow guests were in the middle of our second autograph session when David noticed something on one of the markers, a label saying “Not Terri’s”… Baku staffers and volunteers must’ve heard from other conventions and/or learned their lesson last year. Yep, I’m a notorious thief of markers, but not any ol’ marker will do. It has to be Sharpie. That’s brand loyalty, people.

Amanda (Guest Relations Lady Extraordinaire), David, Scott, Stephen, & myself visit Church Street and stopped by The Dobra Tea House. Their loose leaf Yerba Mate (served in a gourd) is my new best friend, Stephen got one made with maple syrup (which was also yummy). The atmosphere was something else and, at one point, they even played music from Cowboy Bebop… When can I move in?

I’ve been doing cons for almost four years now and if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: staff can make or break a convention. Baku just further proves my point, they’re one big happy family. All of us out-of-towners got to join the staffers for an after con dinner. After a long weekend, it was nice just to sit and relax with everyone. It was a lot of fun. Plus, I got to see my friends from Animaine (which starts today I believe)!

Come Fly with MeI’m sure I’m forgetting a ton of stuff worth highlighting, but I don’t want to make this post novel-worthy. So lucky to have been a part of Bakuretsu for another year, huge thanks to everyone for the phenomenal weekend and also for the card everyone signed for our anniversary (talk about sweet)!

Though I may not be the best when it comes to flying, I am extremely grateful that I got the chance to travel with one of the dorkiest people on the planet. Miss you already, Vermont!

Bakuretsu Con was awesome. It was my first time to VT as well as the convention. The Staff was awesome, the guests were great and I want to thank you Terri for all the great panels you were apart of. I look forward to talking to you again in Jan, if not before then.
